INTERNATIONALIZATION, INTEGRATION AND INTERNALIZATION IN THE BANKING SECTOR: THEORETICAL AND METHODOLOGICAL ASPECTS IN THE GLOBAL COMPETITION CONTEXT
Journal Title: Держава та регіони. Серія: Економіка та підприємництво - Year 2018, Vol 6, Issue 105
Abstract
In the article, the theoretical and methodological aspects of the study of the processes of integration, internationalization and internalization in the banking sector are systematized. The systematization allowed determining the subordination and interdependence of these processes associated with the globalization of the banking sector and competition. Thus, the processes of integration underlie the globalization. The first level of integration, its basis, is the internationalization and internalization processes. The processes of internationalization and internalization are conditioned to the bank international activity. During the research have to distinguish between processes related to the functioning of representative offices and branches of foreign banks in the market of banking services of an individual country or group of countries, as well as foreign investment in assets (internationalization), from those characterizing the activity of banks of a certain country within the framework of its national banking sector or system under conditions of access and competition of foreign capital (internalization). Based on the differences in the characteristics of the processes, it is proposed to distinguish the concept of internalization. Considering this, internationalization is a process of micro-level (functioning of international, transnational banks). Unlike internationalization, internalization is a process from micro to macro level (the functioning of a domestic bank, the banking sector, the national banking system in the conditions of free or restricted access of foreign bank capital). Consequently, the focus of research on processes in the banking sector or the system will change. In studying the process and results of internationalization, the activities of a particular international or transnational bank, its impact on the banking system of a country, the associations of countries and around the world are assessed. In researching the process and results of internalization, the activities of the national bank, sector, and system within the framework of a particular country, national unions, and the world have to be evaluated. These aspects ought to be taken into account when studying competition.
