INTRANASAL ROUTE-AN INNOVATIVE TECHNIQUE FOR BRAIN TARGETTING

Journal Title: World Journal of Pharmaceutical Research - Year 2017, Vol 6, Issue 12

Abstract

The complex arrangement of Blood-Brain Barrier(BBB) restricts the entry of drugs into the brain. The intranasal route is widely accepted route for the delivery of many therapeutic agents due to a reason it bypasses BBB. Direct nose to brain drug delivery has been proved to be an excellent platform for brain targeting through surface engineering of neurotherapeutic-loaded carrier systems resulting in enhanced product performance. There is a unique pathway through nasal mucosa to brain by which many upcoming therapeutic agents will also delivered through this route to brain which have brain as target site. Nowdays, macromolecules, stem cells, DNA plasmids, chemotherapeutic agents etc are delivered by intranasal route.
