Intraoral Scanners In Completely Edentulous Jaws: Review
Journal Title: Uluslararası Dis Hekimligi Bilimleri Dergisi - Year 2024, Vol 10, Issue 3
Abstract
Aim: In recent years, with the developments in intraoral scanners, studies on the precise recording of digital measurements of hard and soft tissues of completely edentulous patients have increased. The purpose of this review; The aim of this study is to compare the advantages and difficulties of using an intraoral scanner in completely edentulous mouths compared to the traditional method and to provide information about the studies on the subject. Materials and Method: Detailed information is given about the current intraoral scanners used in recent years and their comparison with traditional impressions is made. Results: Intraoral scanners generally report that they can be used to take digital measurements of teeth and implants and to digitalize edentulous jaws in the production of fixed dentures and, in recent studies, in the production of complete dentures. Although it has many advantages over the traditional method, such as reducing clinical time, patient and physician comfort, and ability to store data, it has disadvantages such as requiring user experience, being difficult to record soft tissues and sulcus, and being affected by oral fluids such as blood and saliva. Conclusion: Correct scanning of edentulous jaws is a very important step during complete denture production; however, the sensitivity of the resulting digital scan is still controversial.
