Investigation of academic burnout predisposing factors among medical students of Bandar Abbas faculty of medicine in 2017

Abstract
Background: To investigate prevalence of academic burnout and its predisposing factors among medical students of different educational levels. Methods: This descriptive study was carried out on 222 undergraduate medical students of Bandar Abbas factuality of medicine via student’s demographic data and Massol's student’s burnout questionnaire. The correlation between students’ academic burnout and demographic data was analysed using descriptive statistics, Chi-Square test and Independent Samples (T-test). Results: 222 participants were studied including 143 females (64.4%) and 79 males (35.6%). Among them 204 were single (91.9%) and 18 were married (8.1%). P<0.005 was obtained as a significant level; the only significant correlation was between interest and academic burnout. Conclusion: among all proposed risk factors, interest had the strongest co-efficiency with burnout, followed by marital status and habitation status. Gender and educational level had the least correlations. Strong significant correlation was seen between burnout score of students who were interested in their field and who were not (p value 0.00).no other significant relation was seen between demographic data and academic burnout.
