Investigation of income convergence among Iran’s provinces: A panel unit root approach

Abstract

The purpose of the present study is to investigate real per capita income convergence of thirteen provinces of Iran. To this end unit root test and panel data from 2000-2010 was used. The innovation of the present study is using domestic GDP of provinces to for convergent test done for the first time. Since this period includes two development program, this period was divided in two sub-period of 2000-2004 (third program) and 2005-2010 (fourth program).The results of the present study rejected the convergence hypothesis of income ( absolute, conditional and Cathing-up process) among Iran’s provinces during 2000-2010. During 2000-2004 conditional and Cathing-up process convergence and during 2005-2010absolute and Cathing-up convergence was verified. JEL classification : C23-F15-R11-R58
