IS METFORMIN A SUITABLE THERAPY APROACH IN POLYCYSTIC OVARY SYNDROME?
Journal Title: Romanian Journal of Diabetes Nutrition and Metabolic Diseases - Year 2011, Vol 18, Issue 3
Abstract
As many as 5-10% of women of childbearing age may have polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), which is characterized by impaired fertility due to anovulation, irregular menses, symptoms of hyperandrogenaemia, insulin resistance and a cluster of cardiovascular risk factors resembling the metabolic syndrome. A large and growing evidence base supports the use of metformin to improve ovulation and fertility rates, and associated cardiovascular and metabolic abnormalities, in women with PCOS.
