Abstract
In this work the process of formation and development of water sports in the educational institutions of the Odessa educational district has been studied. The activity of high-ranking officials, members of the royal family, sports organizations in the promotion of sea and river sport among pupils of educational institutions is analyzed. It is established that in the southern region of Ukraine, student water sports enjoyed quite a lot of popularity. This was largely promoted by the policy pursued by the state in the physical development of students. Water sports develop mainly due to the efforts and personal participation of the members of the royal family, high-ranking officials of the Odessa academic district, urban yacht clubs, individual sports enthusiasts.
