Abstract
This article attempts to outline the literary image of women in the 19th and early 20th century. The author analyzing literary examples of the traditional image of women and their social and moral role, points to the literary works of Emmy Dmochowska Jeleńskich. That her characters going beyond the socializing frame of “weaker sex”, they paved the way for today’s liberated and con dent female characters created by the contemporary writers.
