LAS FRONTERAS DE UNA ALIANZA. GUERRA DEL PARAGUAY E IDENTIDAD EN LA OBRA DE JUAN BAUTISTA ALBERDI.

Abstract
The Paraguayan War was the most important armed conflict between countries in the history of Latin America. It brought Brazil, Argentina and Uruguay -the three signatories of the Triple Allianceinto conflict with Paraguay for almost six years (1864-1870). The was was considered a key period in the consolidation of Argentine national state. Nevertheless the war was opposed both at a material and a symbolic level. The main intellectual figure within this opposition trend was Juan Bautista Alberdi (1810-1884). The dispute for the contents of Argentine national identity also included the representations held about the other warring countries, especially those of Brazil, a former rival. In this paper, we will analyze the representations of the Argentine nation in this author’s work during the war.
