Legal and historical prerequisites for the consolidation of the constitutional principle of equality of citizens before the law in the Constitution of Ukraine

Abstract
The article is devoted to the study of the legal and historical preconditions for the consolidation of the principle of equality of citizens before the law in the Constitution of Ukraine as a prerequisite for the development of democratic principles of the Ukrainian state and society. It was shown that at each historical stage of the development of law there was an inherent understanding of equality, in particular, the genesis of the principle of equality in Ukrainian constitutional law was directly related to the development of the idea of constitutionalism during the period of national renaissance. The article analyzes various historical stages in the law of Ukraine and the contemporary understanding of the principle of equality. In the constitutional acts adopted in various socio-political conditions, the principle of equality of citizens before the law found its consolidation as an indispensable foundation for the full functioning of the state and society. Of course, the principle of equality at the constitutional level is an important ground for the formation of Ukraine as a democratic, social and legal state.
