LEXICAL-SEMANTIC AND TRANSLATIONAL PECULIARITIES OF THE MEDICAL LEXIS OF MODERN FRENCH

Abstract
This study is dedicated to a timely problem of the lexical-semantic peculiarities of medical lexis in modern French as well as to the difficulties of its translation. In the modern world, medical discourse is becoming more widespread due to the fact that medicine is an integral part of any person’s life being a key to its comfort and longevity. At the same time, a rapid development of science and differences between medical practices and systems in different countries create difficulties for intercultural communication and translation. In the course of our research we have studied the linguistic peculiarities of medical lexis of the French language. The research findings have demonstrated that this type of lexis is numerous. It comprises a particularly substantial number of abbreviations, contracted forms, as well as eponyms. It is possible to state, that as a result of the conducted analysis, we have managed to reveal the main peculiarities of medical terms in French, as well as a range of the major difficulties occurring during translation.
