LEXICOGRAPHIC WORK ON HYDRONYMY OF THE RIVER DANUBE: STRUCTURE OF THE DICTIONARY AND THE PRINCIPLES OF CONSTRUCTION OF DICTIONARY ENTRY

Abstract
The article is devoted to the features of structure and principles of construction of dictionary entry in E. S. Otin’s work «Ãèäðîíèìèÿ Äîíà», representing the catalogue of hydronyms which acts as the most explanatory type of the lexicographic description of hydronymy of certain territory on its river network and meets the major requirements of modern onomastic lexicography: catalogues reflect the real sequence of arrangement of hydroobjects. The monography contains the names of hydroobjects of the Danube basin from its sources to the inflow into the gulf of Taganrog in the sea of Azov. Hydronym, being the minimum unit of a hydrographic chain, is presented as a part of difficult complexes which consist of the names of the adjacent objects which have lexical generality, as well as very close onomasiologic interrelation. E. S. Otin’s catalogue reflects the natural sequence of arrangement of objects with the account of left bank and right bank hydronymy. The Danube hydronymy is presented according to the real hydrographic network before the radical anthropogenous changes of the ÕÕ century. At the same time the «neohydronymic» material is included in the book. The synchronic and diachronic variants, doublets of hydronyms and connected with them placenames are widely presented.
