Abstract
‘Linguistic’ play ‘Myna Mazaylo’ by MykolaKulish is peculiar as a combination of a drama piece and a scientific treatise on the beauties of Ukrainian language, which acts as a character of the comedy. It isa rare case bothfor Ukrainian and world culture. The article proves the fact that in understanding a piece of literature one of representative methods is a fusion of linguistic and literary methodologies. This constitutes the subject matter and tasks of the article, the author of which in deciphering itsartistic codegoes to the depth of a pressing matter for every nation, including Ukraine, namely its existence/independence through the status of Ukrainian language as an official one.M. Kulish,using linguistic discourse,in a convincing artistic form studies utterly important issues of the Ukrainian language existence as a lingering death under conditions of Sovietchauvinism.
