LOCAL AUXILIARY POLICE OF THE DONETSK REGION IN THE PERIOD OF NAZI OCCUPATION (1941–1943)

Abstract
The behaviour of the civilian population of the Donetsk region during the World War II is one of the controversial topics in the national historiography. The interpretation of those or other actions of the inhabitants of the region, depending on political positions and ideological orientations, served in a diametrically opposite angles. Particularly ticklish is a problem of the collaboration of the local population with the Nazi occupation regime in this period, one of the most striking manifestations of which was the work of the local auxiliary police. The author of the article on materials of the state archives of Donetsk oblast made an attempt to study the process of creating the German occupation authorities of the local auxiliary police in the territory of the Donetsk area (modern Donetsk oblast), which was then included in the zone of military administration. The researcher analysed the main reasons for local citizens to join the police. It is provided a social snapshot of the employees of the authority. It is studied the structure of these units, their tasks and functions. It is identified the main approaches of their activities. It is found the main sources of their funds.
