Low-Formaldehyde Hydrophobic Cum Crease Resistant Finishing of Woven Silk Fabric
Journal Title: Fibres and Textiles in Eastern Europe - Year 2015, Vol 23, Issue 6
Abstract
In the present study, a low-formaldehyde based hydrophobic cum crease resistant finishing of woven silk fabric was developed with a comparison of three commercially available cross-linkers (i.e., Knittex RCT[sup]®[/sup], Fixapret ECO[sup]®[/sup] and Reaknitt EC[sup]®[/sup]). The treatment parameters of cross-liker types and their concentrations were investigated in relation to the crease recovery angle (CRA), contact angle, tensile strength and air permeability of the silk fabric. The highest CRA of 265° was observed for the Reaknitt EC[sup]®[/sup] treated silk fabric and for the untreated silk fabric it was 165°. The contact angle generally increased with increasing of the cross-liker concentration; and amongst the all the cross-linkers considered, Fixapret ECO[sup]®[/sup] treated fabric exhibited the highest contact angle of 134.59°, whereas that of untreated was zero. The finishing additionally improved the air permeability of treated silk fabric with fair whiteness. The treated silk fabrics, however, showed a loss in tensile strength with an increase in concentration for all three types of cross-linkers. Scanning electron microscopy showed the impregnation of the finish into the treated silk fabric.

Novel Approach to Dye Polyethylene Terephthalate (PET) Fabric in Supercritical Carbon Dioxide with Natural Curcuminoid Dyes
The use of natural dyes has increased in the last few decades due to the eco-friendly approach of dyeing. There are still some limitations that are associated with natural dyes, such as dyeing efficiency, reproducibility...
Energy Release Studies of Human Feet for Mapping µPCM Quantity in Socks for Thermoregulation
Pure PCM and microencapsulated PCM (µPCM) were analysed for heat capacity and core content using DSC analysis and were tested for stability against heat and solvent. The energy release rate of human feet was quantified t...
Mechanical Behaviour of Hybrid Composites Developed from Textile Waste
The current study focused on the use of textile industry waste (cotton and jute) and glass fabric for the development of hybrid composites. Composites were fabricated using either a single reinforcement or different frac...
Impact of Hexaamidocyclotriphosphazene on the Flame Retardancy of Paper
In this paper, the flame retardancy of hexaamidocyclotriphosphazene (HACTP) in paper was studied by limiting oxygen index measurement, the vertical burning test and cone calorimetry test. Meanwhile the mechanism was disc...
Local Optimization of Bonnet Thickness in Global Heat Balance of Neonate
Global heat transport for an neonate body is determined by means of heat balance with the term describing evaporation. The heat storage rate is the unbalanced difference between the metabolic heat production and various...
