Managing knowledge in theory and practice. Insight from Polish Quality Award laureates

Abstract
This article introduces and expands the issue of knowledge management in organizations from both a theoretical and practical perspective. The article has theoretical and empirical layers which complement each other to form a logical whole. The purpose of this article is to show the essence of knowledge management and the benefits of implementing the concept of knowledge management in an organization. The article shows the growing importance of knowledge management in modern enterprises, which operate in the conditions of knowledge society and knowledge-based economy. A review of approaches to the concept of knowledge management was done. Knowledge management focuses on the acquisition of knowledge, which enables the achievement of business objectives. In this article, knowledge management is referred to as understood by practitioners and is accompanied by broad overview knowledge management definitions and concepts. The article contains research results done by the author among the winners of the Polish Quality Award.
