Manpower Planning with Annualized Hours Flexibility: A Fuzzy Mathematical Programming Approach
Journal Title: Decision Making in Manufacturing and Services - Year 2016, Vol 10, Issue 1
Abstract
We have considered the problem of annualized hours (AH) in workforce management. AH is a method of distributing working hours with respect to the demand over a year. In this paper, the basic Manpower planning problem with AH flexibility is formulated as a fuzzy mathematical programming problem with flexible constraints. Three models of the AH planning problem under conditions of fuzzy uncertainty are presented using different aggregation operators. These fuzzy models soften the rigidity of the deterministic model by relaxing some constraints with the use of flexible programming. Finally, an illustration is given with a computational experiment performed on a realistic-scale case problem of an automobile company to demonstrate and analyze the effectiveness of the fuzzy approach over a deterministic model.

Insertion Algorithms with Justification for Solving the Resource-Constrained Project Scheduling
The paper presents the resource-constrained project scheduling problem with the makespan minimisation criterion. To solve the problem, the authors propose insertion algorithms which generate schedules with use of forward...

A Utility Function to Solve Approximate Linear Equations for Decision Making
Suppose there are a number of decision variables linearly related to a set of outcome variables. There are at least as many outcome variables as the number of decision variables since all decisions are outcomes by themse...
Competitive location under proportional choice: 1-suboptimal points on networks
This paper is concerned with a competitive or voting location problem on networks under a proportional choice rule that has previously been introduced by Bauer et al. (1993). We refine a discretization result of the auth...
A Loss Function for Box-Constrained Inverses Problems
A loss function is proposed for solving box-constrained inverse problems. Given causality mechanisms between inputs and outputs as smooth functions, an inverse problem demands to adjust the input levels to make the outpu...
