Medical laboratory and ISO accreditation schemes and current activities involving medical laboratory accreditation
Journal Title: Journal of Analytical Bio-Science - Year 2011, Vol 34, Issue 4
Abstract
JAB and the Japanese Committee for Clinical Laboratory Standards (JCCLS) jointly developed an accreditation scheme in August 2005 for Japanese medical laboratories based on the accreditation criteria of ISO 15189. At a meeting of the Committee for the Mutual Recognition Arrangement (MRA) of Asia Pacific Laboratory Accreditation Cooperation (APLAC), held in April 2007, JAB established a newly organized MRA for medical laboratory accreditation. That accreditation granted by JAB based on ISO 15189 soon came to be accepted internationally, thus further securing the status of the medical laboratories accredited by JAB. JAB will endeavor to promote a better understanding of the accreditation program for pathology laboratories, in addition to examining how to expand its current scope of accreditation to cover medical laboratories performing various physiological examinations. It is hoped that this scheme will contribute to the health of the Japanese people and the overall quality of healthcare.

For clinical laboratory data to be utilized in the diagnosis and prevention of disease, their reliability must be verified. To ensure the reliability of routine test data in all laboratories, it is necessary for it to be...
Standardization of clinical test data and common reference intervals
Currently, there is some between-laboratory variability in the clinical chemistry field. However, some items exhibit differences because of reagents, methods, and analyzers. I analyzed between-laboratory variability usin...
Enhancement of cytokine (IL-2, INF-γ) production in Th1 cells by crude protein extract of Equisetum arvense LINNE
We previously reported that the highest cell proliferation-inhibitory effect of a crude protein extract solution of Equisetum arvense LINNE (crude E. arvense protein) on cultured cells was noted in the group treated with...
Protective effect of Brazilian propolis ethanol extract against stress-induced gastric mucosal lesions in rats. Its evaluation using oxidative stress markers
We evaluated the protective effect of Brazilian propolis ethanol extract (BPEE) against gastric mucosal lesions in rats with water-immersion restraint stress (WIRS) using oxidative stress markers. Exposure of Wistar rats...
