Abstract
some basic ways of defining this concept, based on understanding "innovation" as a way to find new qualities in the subject of research by using new methods. The author offers an explanation of the relat ionship between innovation and heuristics as different aspects of cognitive research. The argument is based on th e idea that an innovation is a necessary basic property of the modern science methodology, along with nonlinearity, synergy, heuristic, and persistence. There are two of the most common heuristic methods - "availability heuristics" and "brainstorming". They are considered as such which have a common nature with serendipity and innovation of scientific activity, which are caused by the subject and object of research. The author also analyzed the peculiarities of the methodology in modern scientific research. Innovation and heuristic should be taken into account as the main characteristics of the complex problems research. Innovation is defined as a characteristic of the new ways of constructing a methodology for investigation in the modern science. Also, the author shows definition of notion «innovation» in different branches of knowledge. In the article, there is suggested a comparison of innovation with other forms of scientific research such as experiment and heuristics. As a result, the article shows a neсessity of innovation as a new methodological principle
