MIGRATION, STRATEGY AND TACTIC: EVERYDAY LIFE EXPERIENCES OF THE SYRIAN ASYLUM- SEEKERS
Journal Title: The Journal of International Social Research - Year 2016, Vol 9, Issue 42
Abstract
Syrian civil war and related refugee migration to Turkey effected the border cities such as Antakya, Şanlıurfa, Mardin, Gaziantep and Kilis in Turkey. Among these cities Gaziantep and Kilis have been mostly effected because of the ethnicity of their population. Both cities have population with Turkoman origin, speaking one of Turkish accents. In this study we want to explore what are the Syrian people’s strategy and tactics, and how they develop them to copy with the public power’s exceptions against Syrian asylum-seekers. We study these situations through in-depth interviews with more than one hundred refugees and with NGO’s members, also through participant observation and examining the news about the refugees in media. The field study lasted from August 2014 to February 2015, but the substantial part of the study is conducted between January and February 2015.
