MODIFICATION OF AUTOCLAVED AERATED CONCRETE WITH RECYCLED MATERIALS

Journal Title: Structure and Environment - Year 2017, Vol 0, Issue 4

Abstract

The paper compares the effect of additions such as plastic waste and natural process rejects on physical and mechanical properties and on phase composition of autoclaved aerated concrete (AAC) products. Two modifiers were used: pulverized high impact polystyrene regranulate (HIPS) and chalcedonite dust as a waste product from the chalcedonite production site. The analysis indicated that the incorporation of HIPS improved the physical and mechanical properties of the modified AAC with the best results. The addition of 30% substrate increased the compressive strength by 28% and decreased the water absorption coefficient by 38% compared with the specimens containing chalcedonite. The modified AAC phase composition was studied through XRD.
