Morphogenesis and developmental biology of African violet (Saintpaulia ionantha H. Wendl.)
Journal Title: Journal of Plant Development - Year 2016, Vol 23, Issue 0
Abstract
African violet (Saintpaulia ionantha H. Wendl.) has been domesticated, bred and commercialized. It is the most famous and popular of the Saintpaulia species, its ornamental value arising from its attractive leaves and flowers. African violet plants are easy to propagate by adventitious organ regeneration and are very sensitive to environmental factors including light, temperature, humidity, CO2 concentration and photoperiod. This review offers a short synthesis on advances made in conventional vegetative propagation by adventitious organ regeneration, select early historical in vitro developmental perspectives, and vegetative and reproductive development of African violet.

Genetic and agronomic evaluation of rainfed tomato (Solanum lycopersicum L.) accessions in Ibadan, Nigeria
The extent of genetic variability among 19 accessions of tomato was studied using genetic variability parameters. Four-week old seedlings were transplanted in a well levelled field with 0.6 x 0.6 spacing and replicated t...

Quercus robur, Q. cerris and Q. petraea as hot spots of biodiversity
Three different bipartite networks (pathogenic, ectomycorrhizal and galling insects) established by Quercus robur L., Q. cerris L. and Q. petraea (Matt.) Liebl. were merged in order to investigate the topological propert...
Estimation of heritability and predicted genotype mean for seed yield of castor (Ricinus communis L.) using Best Linear Unbiased Prediction (BLUP)
Eighty six castor genotypes were evaluated to estimate heritability and predicted genotype mean for seed yield and its component traits. The genotypes were planted at three locations using incomplete block experimental d...
