MOSCHOPOLITES IN HUNGARY
Journal Title: Analele Universitatii Ovidius Constanta Seria Istorie - Year 2011, Vol 8, Issue 0
Abstract
The theme of the article is a part of the theme of my PhD/dissertation, which studies the migration of Moschopolites (residents of Moschopolis) from their homeland to Miskolc, a city in the modern Northeastern Hungary1. Thematically and chronologically the dissertation placed right at the point where the coordinates of space and time “found” in the territories of Central and South-eastern Europe in the 18th century. The period, during which the crown of the Habsburg monarchs, after a long series of struggle, finally capitulates with the faltering Ottoman Empire, created new conditions in the welfare of their subjects. In that point of view exactly we must seek and try to interpret the presence of Moschopolites in the Balkans and Central Europe.
