MUSICAL DEVELOPMENT CHARACTERISTICS OF PRIMARY EDUCATION STUDENTS AND MUSIC EDUCATION

Abstract
When foundations of music education begin in the primary education stage, children are involved in a planned structure of developing musical knowledge and skills. In Turkey, for the first four years, music education is provided by primary school teachers rather than music teachers. It is considered necessary for classroom teachers to know the general characteristics as well as the main features of musical developmental for students. In this study, a literature review identified the desired musical development characteristics of primary students and was used to provide suggestions about music education to primary school teachers.
