Abstract
The present article describes the interrelated components of social education of orphans nowadays and at the first half of the 20th century. The article deals with the national-patriotic education in boarding institutions as a factor of socialization of unprotected categories of children, which primarily include orphans and children left without parental care. The aim of the article is to emphasize that one of the main tasks of modern boarding institutions is the education of the national-conscious socially mature personality. The author pays attention that the combination of national and universal aspects in socio-educational work of boarding institutions of the first half of the 20th century is consonant with the national policy today. There are examples of national-patriotic education of the first half of the 20th century.
