Multidimensional comparative analysis in the selection of the companies in the investment portfolio

Abstract
The paper presents a comparative analysis of multivariate methods that can be helpful in selecting companies for investment portfolio. The ranking of attractive investment companies was based on linear sum method. It used also linear discriminant function (classification based on the rate of return higher than the median for the analyzed companies) in which the independent variables were selected on the assumption of parametric method. In order to identify the financial ratios affecting to a large extent on the division in groups similar to each other was used principal component analysis. The group of similar companies is also illustrated by the hierarchical dendrogram obtained by Ward’s method.
