Abstract
The text was created to remind Antoni Józef Rolle`s historical tales. Antoni Józef Roll is a writer unjustly forgotten today by readers and critics, valued by his contemporaries prominent columnists such as Józef Ignacy Kraszewski and Teodor Tomasz Jeż. The purpose of the text is an attempt to discuss the sources of anecdotes and ways in which they attract attention of readers, the classification of both methods for inducing humor and its forms The text also presents methods of handling irony and derision, the use of humor and categories discussed by Bohdan Dziemidok (About humour. From Aristotle to today). The historical work of this storyteller from Podolia seems particularly worth reminding especially on the centenary of Henryk Sienkiewicz`s death, as both authors wrote about the military struggle in the Kresy area and demonstrated the same heroes.
