NUTRITIONAL STATUS AND EATING HABITS AMONG PHYSICALLY ACTIVE CHILDREN

Abstract

[b]Background.[/b] Studies in children and adolescents show significant abnormalities in their nutritional status. Due to the dynamic growth of young bodies, nutritional disorders adversely affect physical development of children and adolescents. One of the most important factors determining correct development of children is physical activity. Excessive physical loads and nutrition disorders can lead to various disturbances in the physical development of the child. The aim of this study was the assessment to assess the nutritional status and eating habits of children and young people attending sports training.[b]Material and methods. [/b]The dietary questionnaires were collected in a group of 80 parents of boys aged 5-14 years training football. The survey concerned the most often consumed products and parents' dietary habits. The collected data were assessed in relation to percentile charts and Cole's index.[b]Results. [/b]The mean age of the studied children was 9.0 ± 2.75 years. The average value of body weight percentile was 50.1 ± 26.67, the mean percentile of body height was 56.8 ± 29.45 and the mean percentile of BMI value was 47.9 ± 27.24. In relation to growth charts for BMI 10% of the group characterized by a very low body weight, and in 6% of the group was diagnosed with excess body weight[b]Conclusions.[/b] Physically active children may be vulnerable to the development of malnutrition. For early detection of developmental abnormalities, the child should be monitored based on percentile charts.
