Obesity influence on health
Journal Title: Postępy Nauk Medycznych - Year 2011, Vol 24, Issue 9
Abstract
Obesity is an important cause of increased morbidity and mortality in developed countries. In population follow up studies the lowest mortality was observed between BMI 21-25 kg/m2. Above this value mortality was higher mainly due to cardiovascular diseases, diabetes and cancer. Abdominal obesity is significantly stronger risk factor for these diseases than gluteo-femoral obesity. Abdominal obesity exerts its detrimental influence on health by generation abnormalities in lipoprotein and carbohydrate metabolism, and by hemodynamic abnormalities. It was shown, that cardiovascular preventive effects of lifestyle improvement may be reduced by simultaneous development of obesity and diabetes. The worldwide increase of obesity are wanted urgently.
