Journal Title: Вісник Житомирського державного університету імені Івана Франка - Year 2016, Vol 84, Issue 2
Abstract
Insular dialects functioning in a foreign language environment have recently aroused great interest of scholars. In our case this concerns the Bohemian dialect of the Transcarpathian Germans. The object of our investigation is a syntactical aspect of the dialect. We focus our attention on the sentence as the principal unit of the syntax. The aim of the given article is to give comparative analysis of German dialectal and literary variants of the structure of the simple sentence in Midbavarian Bohemian dialects of such villages as Synyak, Nyzhnya Hrabivnytsya, Drachyno, Puznyakivtsi (Chynadijevo language islet) which are situated in the Ukrainian language environment. The interviewing, comparative and descriptive methods were used in the process of writing the article. We have come to the conclusion that simple syntactical constructions are prevailing in the dialect under study, though some complex structures are also rather commonly used. The strict order of the parts of the sentence is not observed in the Bohemian dialect. Various inverse structures are rather widespread, where the position of the parts of the sentence does not correspond to the principles of the German literary language standards. This violation of the rules is preconditioned by the influence of the Ukrainian dialect on the investigated German patois. The violation of the frame structure, typical of the German literary language, is a widespread phenomenon in the simple sentence of the Bohemian dialect. The analysis of the written language material entitles us to state the fact that, though the Bohemian dialect of the villages Synyak, Hrabivnytsya, Puznyakivtsi and Drachyno is rather close to standard German (phonetic and lexical peculiarities), we notice some distinctions in the structure of the sentence which are manifested in the grammatical sequence of the sentence. The German dialect being in close touch with the Ukrainian dialectal language for a long time has been greatly influenced by the latter. It has caused several grammatical violations in the syntactical aspect that do not correspond to the rules of standard German: а) No distinct position for the verb predicate in the sentence; b) Violation of the frame construction; c) Omission of the subject expressed by a personal pronoun etc.
