Online Media and Environmental Activism: Study of Indian Environmental Movements

Journal Title: IOSR Journal of Humanities and Social Science - Year 2018, Vol 23, Issue 5

Abstract

Environmentalist groups have often relied on grassroots movements, traditional media or localised campaigns to spread awareness and information regarding various environmental issues. However, over the past decade internet has reinvented the forms and practices of activism all around the world. It allows people to participate in simultaneous movements and gives the activists an alternate space to present their side of the story. The paper examines whether the use of social media spurs environmental activism and public engagement. It will also focus on the growth of environmental movements in India.
