Journal Title: Біль. Суглоби. Хребет - Year 2014, Vol 3, Issue 15
Abstract
Objective of this work — to determine the clinical and pathogenetic correlation of osteoarthritis (OA) with the ecological state of the atmosphere in regions where patients live. Material and Methods. The study involved 133 patients with primary OA aged 58.9 ± 0.8 years. The authors have evaluated the level of emissions of various xenobiotics in the atmosphere of 33 urban and rural regions. Results. Expressed inhaled air pollution causes the frequent development of reactive synovitis, increased rate of joint syndrome progression, the formation of subchondral sclerosis, ligamentosis, bone erosions, intraarticular Hoffa’s bodies, lesions of the spine, which is primarily due to the increase of emissions into the atmosphere of major industries, agriculture and transport, with air concentrations of ammonia, 3,4-benzopyrene, phenol, nitrogen and sulfur dioxides, and in terms of spondylopathies — carbon dioxide. Conclusions. The authors have identified certain clinical and pathogenetic correlation of OA and ecological state of ambient air.
