OUR NATIONAL PRESS AND STATEHOOD DURING THE AZERBAIJAN PEOPLE’S REPUBLIC PERIOD

Abstract
On May 18, 1918, for the first time in the Muslim East, the first, based on democratic and universal human values, national republic was created – the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic. The peculiarity of the press of the period of existence of the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic was its ideological wealth. The article defines the value attached to printing during the specified period. After the declaration of national independence, the newspaper Azerbaijan begins. Canceled print censorship. In the same period, the first legislative act regulating the activities of the press, the “Statute on the Press”, is adopted. For the establishment and publication of a periodical press body, one application addressed to the chief press inspector was sufficient. On the basis of this statute, the press organ could be held responsible for the violation of existing laws and the crimes committed only by a court decision. The activities of the offspring of the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic – the Azerbaijan State Telegraph Agency are considered.
