Peculiarities of the carbohydrate metabolism in patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and concomitant chronic pancreatitis
Journal Title: Міжнародний ендокринологічний журнал - Year 2017, Vol 13, Issue 1
Abstract
Background. Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease is a leading cause of morbidity and mortality in the world. We can see a combination of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease with disorders of the digestive system, such as chronic pancreatitis, in clinical practice. The functional status of the pancreas plays a direct role in the development of the main components of the metabolic syndrome (hyperinsulinemia, insulin resistance with impaired glucose tolerance). Materials and methods. We have examined 90 patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and chronic pancreatitis, and studied of carbohydrate metabolism, lipid peroxidation and the content of final metabolites of nitric oxide (nitrites/nitrates). Results. The study found an increase in the degree of insulin resistance and the development of oxidative stress. Comprehensive treatment of patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and chronic pancreatitis, which included the administration of basic therapy and reduced glutathione, led to a decrease of the insulin resistance and the restoration of serum reduced glutathione. Conclusions. Decrease in the serum reduced glutathione and the increase of serum level of final metabolites of nitric oxide is accompanied by the increase of degree of insulin resistance.

Potential of Comprehensive Medical Treatment of Complex Laryngeal Nerve Injuries in Thyroid Surgery
Aim of the study. The key point of this research is studying the impact of different methods of medical treatment for patients with dysphonic syndrome after thyroid surgery due to intraoperative injury of the upper laryn...
Effect of Metformin on the Medullary Thyroid Cancer Cells
Background. Medullary thyroid cancer (MTC) is associated with activation of mTOR signaling pathways. Recent studies showed that the anti-diabetic agent metformin decreases proliferation of cancer cells through AMPK-depen...
Essential microelement contents in the blood plasma of children with biologically inactive growth hormone syndrome
Background. The purpose was to increase the effectiveness of treatment in children and adolescents with biologically inactive growth hormone syndrome (BIGHS) based on studying the content of essential microelements (EM)...
Early and delayed reaction of the Hif-1α protein in the hippocampal fields on ischemia-reperfusion in rats with streptozotocin-induced diabetes mellitus
Background. The role of the transcriptional hypoxia-inducible factor-1α (Hif-1α) in the pathogenesis of hypoxic damage and diabetes mellitus (DM) is proved, although molecular mechanisms underlying dysfunction of this fa...
Study of Features of Pregnancy in Women with Onset of Diabetes Type 1 in Prepubertal Period
We studied course of pregnancy in 22 patients with onset of diabetes type 1 in the prepubertal period. It is found that the need for insulin, depending on the duration of pregnancy, varied: decreased in the first trimest...
