Phytochemical screening, antiplatelet activity of Carica papaya leaf extract

Journal Title: Indian Journal of Research in Pharmacy and Biotechnology - Year 2016, Vol 4, Issue 3

Abstract

Carica papaya is belonging to family Caricaceae and it commonly known as papaya. Carica papaya leaves contain chemical constituents like carpine, psedo carpain, and dehydrocarpine I and II, carposide, vitamin C and vitamin E. Leaves of C. papaya used to Increase appetite, Ease menstrual pain, Meat tenderizer, Relieve nausea, in dengue fever. In the present study Carica papaya leaves extracts are prepared with methanol and water by soxhalation, the extracts are investigated for Phytochemicals and studied for invitro anti platelet activity by adrenaline induced platelet aggregation and calcium chloride induced platelet aggregation models. Both methanol and aqueous extracts are shown dose dependent platelet aggregation inhibition. More over Methanol extract shown good inhibition of platelet aggregation (65.63%) & (66.32%) than the aqueous extract (51.39%) & (62.85%) with 300µg/ml concentration than the control group, Aspirin is used as standard drug with 100μg/ml concentration and it showed inhibitory of Platelet aggregation (68.40%) & (68.68%) for both adrenaline induced and calcium chloride induce models simultaneously.
