POLYPHONY AND INTERTEXTUALITY IN “CE QU’ILS DISENT OU RIEN”, “A WOMAN’S STORY”, “EXTERIORS” BY ANNIE ERNAUX

Abstract
The article deals with the verbal means of the polyphony and intertextuality in the novels by Annie Ernaux. This kind of analysis is very actual for Ukrainian philology because the novels by Annie Ernaux, modern feminine French-speaking writer, remain mostly unknown there. It is noted that the gradual transition of the first phenomenon in the second one is connected with the author’s intention to present the socio-cultural discourse surrounding the narrator distantly and objectively. Besides that the article considers the connection between the author’s intention to fix faithfully the collective urban discourse and intertextuality. It deals with the means of implementing intertextuality in the narration, namely the reference and the quotation. It appears that those means serve as pretexts for stylistically colored author’s comments and create the effect of convincing a reader in the veracity of what is said. In conclusion, it is to note that the evolution of Annie Ernot’s creative method from simple polyphony to the distinct intertextuality can be explained by the more skilled work out of the technique of «factual» writing. The perspective of further research consists in tracing the dynamics of the phenomena of polyphony and intertextuality in later writer novels.
