PÓS-GRADUAÇÃO BRASILEIRA: AVALIAÇÃO COMO TRAJETÓRIA À QUALIDADE

Abstract
Th is paper discusses the issue of quality in Higher Education in Brazil, especially in graduate programs, presenting a brief history of the trajectory of the proposals and assessment experiences in the Brazilian graduate programs. With this trajectory is possible to identify the diff erent paths followed in order to structure National Graduate Programs. It highlights the role of CAPES to improve the National Assessment System in Graduate Programs, pointing out its relevance in policies that support research in universities, and in the distribution of scholarships for Masters and PhD. It presents Brazilian Graduate Programs, the best in the southern hemisphere, as the basis for the training of human resources essential for the development of technology and science in the country. Th e methodology used was textual analysis of bibliographic reference relevant to the topic. Th e discussions about assessment refer to a concept of formative evaluation, strengthening the social function of higher education institutions.
