Pre-emptive Analgesic Effects of intravenous Paracetamol in Laparoscopic Surgeries

Abstract
Background: The concept of multimodal analgesia in preventing or treating acute pain is very popular. This ensures optimal dosaging of individual agents and minimizes side effects of individual analgesics. The present study highlights the analgesic activity of intravenous Paracetamol as preemptive analgesic in patients who underwent laparoscopic surgeries. Materials and Methods: The study involved total 70 patients divided as follows: Group A- Paracetamol (1g/i.v), Group-B 100 ml of normal saline. Paracetamol and saline were administered to their respective groups 30 minutes before induction of anaesthesia. All the patients’ demographic data, post operative pain assessment (VAS) was recorded and compared. The data was analysed by using SPSS (20.0) version. Results: Paracetamol administered group showed reduced post operative pain and reduced use of other analgesics in patients underwent laparoscopic surgeries compared to normal saline group. Conclusion: Intra venous administration of paracetmol showed significant reduction in post operative pain in patients underwent laparoscopic surgeries.
