PREFACE AS A TUNING OF THE EDITION

Abstract

Get the Russian-language readers acquainted with culture and literature of the nearby Slavic people is a high mission but a responsible and honoured one as well. In order to let a translator succeed in getting this achievement, it is necessary for the translator to consider not only his/her translation skills but also apply-ing the methods of textual analysis and cognitive linguistics, maintenance of preface as an important ele-ment of the edition, that forms the idea about translator’s personality and the horizons of the reader’s ex-pectation. Any edition, including the edition of literary work or its translation, includes certain structural elements, confirming the presence of that in the original work which is determined by an author, and in its translation with the help of additional comments, clarifications, remarks concerning a specific and volume of its of-fered interpretation or implementation. In the edition under study the attention is paid to its preface in the author’s translation, maintenance and stylistic features of that while examining it as a tuning for further perception of the translation. Studying the translation by А. Aulov and its prefaces assists further activation of the critical idea in the field of trans-lation, and also specifies such material points of any translated edition, as a structure, comments and oth-ers. The novelty of the undertaken research is determined by that fact that it is for the first time that the novel “Marusia Churay” by Lina Kostenko, translated by A. Аulov into the Russian language and published by Kharkov Publishing House “Maidan” in 2012. The supervisions and conclusions, contained in the article, will complement the theoretical and practical tools of modern comparative literary studies, linguistics and literary criticism.
