Preliminary studies of quality assessment of aquatic environments from Cluj suburban areas, based on some invertebrates bioindicators and chemical indicators
Journal Title: Aquaculture, Aquarium, Conservation & Legislation - International Journal of the Bioflux Society - Year 2010, Vol 3, Issue 1
Abstract
Systematic categories of invertebrates bioindicators correlated with some chemical parameters, were an effective way to characterize the quality of lotic (Somes River) and lentic (Lake Gilau) aquatic environment from Cluj-Napoca area. Invertebrate fauna was represented by species belonging to the following dominant systematic categories: Nematoda, Annelida, Crustacea and Insecta. This paper contains also some preliminary data on the bioindicators species belonging to Protozoa phylum. Dominant groups were crustaceans (the sampling points in Lake Gilau) and annelids (Somes River) and among species Gammarus pulex, Daphnia pulex, Tubifex tubifex. The fauna composition shows the β-α mesosaprobic character of the water, with an evolution from β mesosaprobity upstream the Cluj-Napoca city to polysaprobic downstream of the city. This aspect has been observed and analyzed according to chemical parameters (pH, TDS, ORP, EC, t) and indices of saprobity (relative cleanliness, state of relative pollution, the deficit of species, saprobiological index).

Determinants of rural household willingness to pay for safe water in Kwara State, Nigeri
The paper examines the use of the contingent valuation method to study the determinants of rural households’ willingness to pay (WTP) for safe water in Kwara State. A sample of 120 householdswas surveyed and a Tobit mode...
Estimation data on the faecal pollution of Arieș River
Faecal pollution of river water can lead to health problems because of the presence of infectious micro-organisms. These may be derived from human sewage or animal sources. Water safety or quality is best described by a...
Deciphering the Galaxy Guppy phenotype.
Animal breeding hobbyists have been useful to science because they identify and isolate color coat mutations that geneticists can in turn use in their studies of the development and differentiation of color cells. This p...
