Prevalence of Urinary Tract Infection in Pediatric Patients in a Tertiary Care Hospital in a Northern Region.

Abstract
Background: Urinary tract infection (UTI) is one of the common infections occurring in children causing significant morbidity and mortality. The etiology that predisposes to UTI is not very clear as not many studies are available worldwide to find exact risk. Aims and Objectives: The main aim of this study is to analyze the prevalence of UTI in pediatric patients. Method: This is a prospective study done from Jan 2015 to Jan 2016 in a Govt. Medical College, Jammu which is a tertiary care hospital in a northern region. Results: Among 200 cases that are included in our study, shows 125 patients suffer from Urinary tract infection. Out of these 200, 150 belong to 5-12 years of age and 50 belong to 2-5 years of age. Female patients are more in number as compared to male patients. Conclusion: Common organism causing UTI are E.coli followed by Klebsiella, Proteus and Pseudomonas.
