Psychological and physiological aspects of the emergence of optical illusions

Abstract
The article analyzes the psychological and physiological aspects of the emergence of optical illusions. It provides information about some of the known types of optical illusions objects. The article contains information about possible mechanisms of the formation of visual effects. It is reported on the phenomena of apperception in the context of the emergence of visual illusions. Analysis of the actual size and shape of objects may depend on the process of combined effects of visual, tactile and muscular-motor sensations. An illusory perception may include parallel scrutiny of the stimulus with the standard. Illusions has been widely used to explore bistable perception. Сonscious percepts might alternate between two or more different interpretations of the visual influence. Imposibilism is described as a way of representing objects that can not exist in the real world. Further studies of optical illusions in healthy volunteers and patients are needed.
