РАССКАЗ-АНТИУТОПИЯ Н. БЕРБЕРОВОЙ «ПАМЯТИ ШЛИМАНА»

Abstract
This article investigates the specific features of the literary dystopia genre on the material of the story by N. Berberova «In honor of Schlimann». This is the only story of the writer which tells about the events in the future (1984). It is shown that the purpose of this work is a warning about the dangers of omnipotence and the overwhelming power of machines, resulting in a leveling of the human person, the destruction of the spiritual potential of humanity, the dehumanization of society. The conflict «the person and totalitarian power» pulls together Berberova’s work with other samples of dystopia of the twentieth century, particularly with the novel of J. Orwell’s»1984». The article analyzes the most important elements of the story, which allow ranking it as a dystopia genre. The text of the story highlighted the following features: the conflict between the personality and totalitarian system of the technocratic civilization; enslavement of consciousness of the person; the motive of the prevention; the satirical remarks that are aimed to the derision of defects of the existing society. The article marked the unique features of the of N. Berberova’s dystopian text: the circular nature of the chronotope in which the space is represented as the bad infinity deprived of an exit; lack of rebellious potential in an image of the main character; full people’s submission to the mechanistic system, which forms the atmosphere of a hopelessness and apathy. The illusiveness of the depersonalized life and brutality of postulates of the new world in N. Berberova’s dystopia is exposed to ruthless criticism.
