REGIONALISM AND ITS ESSENCE: DIVERSITY OF SCIENTIFIC VIEWS

Abstract
Purpose. The study aims to further develop the theoretical and methodological provisions to clarify conceptual and categorical apparatus of a new regionalism, namely clarification of the essence of the concept of "regionalism". Methodology of research. The methodology of the research was based on a systematic approach, which made it possible to consider the emergence of a new regionalism from the system-functional point of view and to generalize the conceptual-categorical apparatus. General scientific techniques and specific methods of scientific knowledge were used in the process of research. In particular, the monographic method and method of generalizations were used for comparing the concepts of "regionalism" and "regionalization"; method of analysis and synthesis was used for isolating the most important factors of the concept of "regionalism". Findings. The study made it possible to find out that there are the following statements by the authors regarding the relationship between the concepts of "regionalization" and "regionalism": the identification of the concepts of "regionalization" and "regionalism" and their use as synonyms; regionalism comes from the regions, and regionalization is the answer to this center; regionalization is a process that develops the manifestation of regionalism. Originality. Scientific novelty consists in deepening and development of existing theoretical and methodological provisions concerning the formation of a new regionalism. The conceptual-categorical apparatus of the productive forces and the regional economy development theory has further developed through the author’s interpretation of the "regionalism" notion essence, which is considered as an ideological concept that involves expanding powers and responsibilities of regions, acquiring regions that may not coincide with official administrative boundaries, subjectivity and competitiveness in the global market. Practical value. The practical significance of the research results is to refine the concept-categorical apparatus in defining the essence of a «regionalization" concept, as well as the formation of managerial and economic determinants of the emergence of a new regionalism in Ukraine.
