Abstract

This work exposes the results of the research developed to determine the influence between gender relations and academic performance in the computer studies subject. The research has a qualitative approach, the same one that is based on the naturalist paradigm that addresses reality in its natural state and proposes alternative solutions to the problem under study. The modality is of field, bibliographic and documentary; the level of depth is correlational-explanatory, because it explores, describes, analyzes the interrelationships between the variables and establishes a causal relationship. The research involved 287 students (men and women) to whom a Likert-type scale was applied, to assess the behaviors of those under investigation, in the same way to triangulate the information, an interview was applied to the teachers of computer studies subject. The information was analyzed with the application of descriptive and inferential statistical techniques. The data confirm the presence of inequitable gender relations among (female and male) students, as well as the low academic performance of men and especially women; revealing a causal relationship between the variables.
