Relationship between the direct fiscal funding, the quality of faculty and scientific production of institutions belonging to the Chilean Traditional Universities

Abstract
The pursuit of knowledge as one of the main focuses of universities is closely related to quality. To materialize this concept in establishing the relationship of scientific production in Chile, quality of faculty and Direct Fiscal Funding (AFD) destinated to universities belonging to the CRUCH, is the aim of this research. For analysis, a scatter plot is created to intuitively determine if there is a correlation between the study variables. Subsequently, the rate of simple correlation is obtained between the same variables, which results in a very high correlation between each one of the variables. In addition, this same procedure is performed after segmenting universities by location, in the metropolitan area or other regions, and by being state-owned or not, obtaining similar results. To complement this, an analysis with simple linear regression technique is performed, with the results of only a small percentage of scientific publications from the universities of CRUCH, being published by other types of investigators.
