Relative Importance of Species with Potential Medicinal Use in Flora from the Midwest of Brazil

Abstract

The ethnobotanical studies is the first step for a multidisciplinary approach involving various professionals to establish what the promising species for botanical studies, pharmacological and agronomic. In this context, the aim of this study was to identify the species used for medicinal purposes by the population of the Central West region of Brazil and organize them according to their relative importance (RI). The listing of the species used by the population for medicinal purposes was obtained through a literature review of published works, as well as theses and dissertations, ethnobotany approach in the region Midwest (except DF), from 1990 to 2008. They listed 298 species among which the ten species with higher relative importance were: Achyrocline satureoides (Lam.) DC.; Copaifera langsdorffii Desf.; Pterodon pubescens Benth.; Hymenaea stigonocarpa (Mart.) ex Hayne; Strychnos pseudoquina St. Hil.; Senna ocidentalis (L.) Link.; Bowdichia virgiloides H.B.&Kunth.; Rudgea viburnoides Benth.; Bauhinia glabra Jacq. e Macrosiphonia velame Müll. Arg. with IR above 1.5, which means that these species are much sought after by the people who use them for various purposes. This order can contribute in order to establish those species most used / sought by the population, and thus the species that deserve more attention, both from the point of view of notes for future studies (eg, pharmacological) and the need for action management and conservation..
