RELIGIOUS COMPONENT IN THE CONTENT OF SCHOOL EDUCATION IN THE SECOND HALF OF THE XIX CENTURY AND IN THE BEGINNING OF THE XX CENTURY

Abstract

Purpose. To study the historical experience of religion teaching at schools of the second half of XIX-th and at the beginning of XX-th centuries as the main means of formation of values-based attitude to the world. Methodology. The historical and retrospective methods have been used in this research to identify the causes the active influence of the Orthodox clergy on the education development. Hermeneutical method made it possible to interpret the original texts and to specify the views of teachers on the studied problem. Findings. The study of the teachers’ scientific works of the investigated period showed that the religion with the help of its text symbolism, due to the teaching nature of parables and the attractiveness of the external forms of rites was close to people and had tremendous sway with their consciousness and self-awareness. It has been found out that its study was directed on the realization of educational goals. Originality. Based on the analysis of archival materials, genuine pedagogical works it has been of systematized the teachers’ ideas about the religious component of the schooling content, also it has been defined its goal and objectives. The reasons of its introduction has been clarified. Practical value. The results of the study can be used by students and under-graduates during such courses as "History of pedagogics", "History of the educational systems", "General pedagogy". This material will be interesting for the researchers in the fields of theory and methodology of upbringing, axiology. Conclusions. Religious and monarchical foundations of the school of the days of autocratic Russia, religious and patriarchal people's life necessitated the definition of religious components in school curriculum of the second half of XIX and at the beginning of XX century, which was an important component of a holistic educational process, ensuring the development of spirituality and students morality based on Christian values.
