Abstract

The article analyzes the category of limited translatability of German theological texts both of theoretical and theological discourse as well as in popular-theological discourse. Yulia Romanchenko claims that the theological discourse consists of two parts: theoretical and theological; popular- theological and theological discourses. The members of theological discourse form two social groups: 1) professional theologians of Christian scientific theology with specialized education, who have experience of ministry and deep background knowledge of the subject; 2) non-theologians-dilettante, that is believers who do not fully own theological social dialect. The relevance of this article is caused by the lack of analysis of a limited category of translatability both as of modern theological texts of theoretical and theological discourse (TTD) and popular texts of theological discourse (PDD), namely in German-Ukrainian translation. In our research we tried to investigate the genre features of theoretical and theological discourse and popular-theological discourse in terms of translatability of texts, which belong to each of them. The materials theological study were text of Cardinal Kurt Koch "Church without a future?: Plea for the new ways of transmission of the faith" and its translation into Ukrainian, which fulfilled Natalia Komarova and text that refers to theoretical and theological discourse and theology of Joseph Ratzinger text (Pope Benedict XVI) "Salt of the earth. Christianity and the Catholic Church in the 21st century. An interview with Peter Seewald" and its translation into Ukrainian, which fulfilled Oleg Konkevych, this text refers to the popular-theological discourse. Such conclusions can be drawn having analyzed theoretical texts of theological discourse in terms of translatability at the level of lexical elements. There are two types of limited translatability that are associated with the peculiarities of professional terminology and terminological units in non-terminological meaning in theological texts, which belong to both theoretical and theological discourse and in texts that refer to popular-theological discourse: 1) limited linguistic and terminological translatability; 2) limited cultural terminological translatability. We consider limited translatability as a typical sign of theological texts, both theoretical and theological discourse and popular-theological discourse.
