ROLA NOWYCH MEDIÓW W INTEGRACJI POLSKICH IMIGRANTÓW W WIELKIEJ BRYTANII I IRLANDIĘ

Abstract
The researcher has focused her attention on problems connected with maintaining national identity by contemporary Polish immigrants who have recently settled down in Great Britain and Ireland. The researcher has depicted a dynamic development of new media which have caused social changes since nowadays the majority of the forms of human activities centres around the Internet and other new technologies. From the social point of view new media are not exclusively a communication technology but for a large number of immigrant groups they have become a natural environment of social functioning. They help fulfill most social needs, aspirations and motivations. New media facilitate the process of adapting to new circumstances in the country of settlement. They help immigrants find a job, flat, diplomatic and consular institutions or religious associations. Beside communication and informational functions new media also form a specific bridge between the old and the new realities. Moreover, modern media belong to factors which integrate communities of Poles abroad and help immigrants maintain bonds with the country of their origin. The development of new media and an easier access to the means of transportation, e.g. cheap airlines, enable immigrants to maintain permanent contact with their families, friends and institutions in the country of their origin. Migrations have ceased to be a reason of definite and ultimate change of the place of settlement.
